If I do get to attend this year and I camp under the wing of my 182 - I can't imagine going for 3 days w/ out a shower...

Can you tell us what's available for people who want to camp on the field?

Facilities? There's a restaurant/bar within walking distance. Also a gas station.

Nearest shower? Probably next to the nearest ATM :D About 20 minute drive south.

eh im sure Ed will find us something. im not really worrying about stuff like that. I just gotta make sure Leah remembers her tent and sleeping bag.

I mentioned that yesterday (two days ago?) to my dad and said we need to gt some sort of shower and water system up. I was thinking solar heated water in a 53 gallon drum for showers and a 53 gallon drum for water to be used for washing hands, etc...

After discussing that, he said - well, we're going to have the school under construction anyway for the condos, we'll just install one outside, and supply it with heated water from the water heaters inside the school. So, no need to worry we will have running water for your showering pleasure. And a supply of water for general use as well.

It's not going to be *quite* as rustic as last year.

If you do forget anything, the gas station next door has just about everything you will need for a weekend, and like Nick said there are two places to eat in town, and for those that were at Gaston's, you can probably eat at the two places for the whole weekend cheaper than you could for Saturday night dinner at Gastons. (My steak came to $38.00 with tip.)

I assume that this implies that Leah will be attending the 6Y9 Labor Day shin-dig? Rachel and I have reasonable expectations to make it up there this year as well.

If I wanted to stay at nearby airport with an actual motel??? Iron Mountain?

Land O Lakes is the closest by plane, and has lodging on the field. There are two cabins for rent adjacent to the field at 6Y9. A little smaller than Gaston's cottages, however, they are probably already booked.

But like Missa said. Wuss.

But Mike we'd much rather insult anyone on this board in person!

Seriously though, LNL is your best bet if you need a motel, unless you want to buy one of the condos adjacent to the field. :goofy:

So if you and Leah can make it in the Citabria with tent & two sleeping bags, it doesn't pose a problem picking me up with gear?

(....as Kaye wanders off to find a tent and sleeping bag.....when was the last time she slept in a tent :dunno: ) :D :D :D

yep im sure it will be no problem. no way that you and your gear can weigh anywhere close to what the CFI for my checkout weighs. My plan is to drop Leah off at 6Y9 and then come retrieve you from wherever nearby you land.

yes Leah has been planning on it all spring. she's a camper, im a flyer. its a perfect fit.

I may be able to make it this year.

I'm with Mike. My idea of roughing it is only one movie channel on the TV and room service that doesn't have a decent bottle of wine.

What the identifier of Land O Lakes?

Joe

LNL, it's a quick hop in the plane, but a 45-50 minute drive, and no rental cars there. Also at Land O' Lakes is pretty much everything you need within walking distance, and I think maybe even a shuttle to the casino 8 miles up the road - maybe. Joe, you weren't going to bring the Cirrus in were you? Not too sure how good those are at grass.
