Some kind of HUD?

Someone's handiwork is pretty bad. I'll bet there is a nice water leak behind the instrument panel from that misaligned seam. Right where you can't see it until it starts frying electronics.

LOL

It's a windshield anti ice device.

If I was going to put something that ugly in my windshield, I would make it at least be a HUD as well.

Mandatory part of a known-ice cert. You would be impressed (as in, "Holy c**p!") at how much they can cost...

Nothing would surprise me anymore in aviation if there is a "$" in front of it.

I feel like in aviation things are priced based on a graph somewhere titled: "What is the most we could possibly get someone to pay for this?"
That determines the starting price.

Then add the cost of certification. ;)

I think I heard $6K used and "you don't want to know" for a new one! :D

Bryan, you'll see the same thing on the crab boats, only it's circular

This is the one on a 310 which is required for FIKI.

I was told the company that makes this unit is out of business.

I see the hot plates and on every aircraft I see them on I think "that is one damn ugly piece of kit that ruins the whole look of the airplane."

But, if I were going to fly into known ice, I might want one...:dunno:

I agree. Never liked the look of them. Bleed air or heated glass so much nicer.

Heated windshield,device for ice.

I don't know why you guys are laughing...it is a HUD.

Heated

Upfront

De-icer.

:)

I remember installing a glass heated windshield on one side of a 421 back in the 90s, it was $25k just for the unit.

Yep, looks nice but expensive. Had electrically heated glass in Black Hawks. Basically a transparent film with gold dust wedged between two layers of glass. I suppose better than bleed air because it doesn't reduce HP from an engine already tasked out with bleed air in other areas.

 This is America, that is the basis for our entire economic theory.

It's a hands-free sectional holder. Just slide the sectional in it so u can see it at all times!

Hot plates are great if that's all you have, and no, you sure as heck can't depend on defrost for doing the job. I've used them years ago when I used to fly Aztecs, a Cessna 401 and a P210.
