Awhile back Lenny posted this pic. What type with the cruciform tail and underwing engine pods? (port, aft deck) And what was it's primary mission?

Thanks. I don't think I've ever heard of an A-3. It looks like a McDonnal or perhaps a Lockheed.

Here is a picture of one that I took at the boneyard at Davis-Monthan.

In later years it was also used for transporting people.

Some of them were converted for VIP transport.

Actually I had never heard of an A-3 until I met someone who used to fly them. You flew what??
