According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a McJob is “An unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects, especially one created by the expansion of the service sector”.

How would you define the job of CFI?

If you consider it a job you shouldn't be doing it.

How would you define the job of CFI?
In the same black humor vein:

"A CFI's job is in a noisy, cramped environment, which is frequently boring but interrupted by moments of panic and the need for immediate decisive action. Can be lethal to an inattentive or unskilled CFI. Limited career path afterwards requires no more than survival for a requisite number of hours, with luck improving the future prospects of the surviving CFI."

No, I don't really subscribe to the definition.

Concur with Skip -- despite the pay issues, the current air carrier hiring trend means prospects for young CFI's are very bright (unless you think flying for the airlines is just another McJob), and "unstimulating" is hardly a word to be applied to flight instructing.
