That's the Custer Channel Wing, modified from a Baumann Brigadier, a pusher twin. The engine wasn't modified, it was the wing around it, to take advantage of airflow being pulled over the upper surface by the pusher prop.

There have been plenty of umm ... interesting concepts for STOL aircraft. The CCW, at least, had a bit of charm.

is this one I happened to see at Brown Field in San Diego, in 1978:
