Weekend trip: Pappenheim

It had been five years since we were last in the Bavarian town of Pappenheim for family visits. It was high time to visit there again.

Brought back many nice memories. Essen-Mülheim is where I had my checkride (private pilot - airplane) many years ago.

Yep. 2001-2005.

That's what I thought I passed it a few times

I can just make out my barracks in one of those pics. Our hangar at katterbach was the only original on the field. I believe they completely refurbished it now. When I was there it was falling apart. We used to have an old black and white pic of an FW-190 in front of it.

That looks like the one! One of my additional duties was facility maintenance. I was constantly calling public works people to fix stuff in the hangar. One day my CO was standing in the hangar and a big chunk of the ceiling fell down and almost hit him! It was neat to be in a hangar with so much history though.
