As a recent addition to the Midwest, I'm completely dumbfounded when it comes to searching for a public alert weather radio. I've figured out that a SAME-equipped radio is best, but I'm trying to figure out what radio brands/features actually help you out the best.

I had an old iCOM weather radio that I used when I worked on the lobster boat, but I sold that with all my gear when I went to college. Never had one with priority alert or anything, but that was because hurricanes didn't exactly sneak up on you and TSRA out at sea just meant for crappy work. Since +FC is a possibility out here, I'd like to have one of these for those late night, deep sleep events...

Any suggestions or tips from the Midwesterners?

Cheers,

-Andrew

I just ordered this one this week, http://www.weatherconnection.com/product.asp?itmky=823894

You want SAME feature in your radio. I have one now from Radio Shack (older model that they no longer carry) and my biggest beef with it are the Amber alerts that NOAA now transmits. In the middle of the night the darn thing will go off to tell me a kid is missing. In the middle of the night I DON'T CARE!

Most WX radios you can select what alerts you want to alarm and wake you up, my radio is older and while I can turn off a lot of alerts Amber is not a choice. This new radio is one of the few that allows for Amber Alerts to be deselected. The current Radio Shack one does not allow that nor does the Midland model.

So heartless!
