Weather on a Tablet PC in the cockpit

I'm right on the edge of ordering Wx-Worx to run on my Compaq TC1100. I very rarely fly above 10K. I looked at some of the installations on the link Troy posted and I'm just not sure I want the tablet mounted on the yoke. I keep my approach plates and check lists clipped above the yoke. I'm thinking a better solution would be to invest in a pedestal from RAM that mounts between the seats. Of course that works for a 182...I realize other cockpits are a little more space constrained.

According to a thread on Av-Sig..there seems to be a delay in shipping the blue tooth version of the receiver...so I'm going to wait a few more weeks...just in time for T-Storm season on the east coast.

Greg,

I had not heard of AirGator's bundles before that thread, but they look good:

$1795 for USB, or $1895 for Bluetooth gets you WxWorks, a one-year subscription to the service, etc. Have you heard anything about AirGator? I worry about on-going support (will they be around).

I like that you can have your location at the bottom of the screen and see way in front of you, rather than having your location in the middle of the screen (as is default with WxWorks alone) and the weather around you.

I also want to check into Seattle Avionic's chart software... I like the idea that you buy it ONCE, and it uses the free downloadable NACO charts from there on out....

Troy,
Was it you that was using CBAW on a Palm VII for in-cockpit weather, or do I have a cross-linked mental file?

Regular tablets are too big for the yolk. You'll need something that mounts on the seat rails.

I do love mine with WxWorx. Xplore ruggedized tablet.

Yup... you have a cross-linked mental file. Sorry!

I wonder how heavy this is, and if it would work in a plane:

What "rail mounted" system do you use? I'd want something that would be portable enough to move between rentals; even better would be if it did not interfere with the passenger in the right seat.

I'd be worried about a system that put it smack in the middle of the panel, as it might obstruct reaching the fuel selector on Piper or Cherokee aircraft with a pedestal fuel selector.

Here's something from RAM:

Those are pretty cool.

I use something that I made up myself with a Panavise arm from an old Cellphone vehicle mount (know anybody that wants an old 3-watt analog Mistubishi cellphone, 1988 vintage?)....
