weather ap??

AeroWeather is an app that does a good job gathering the METARS and TAFs for the stations you wish to monitor. A free version is available.

But for a more complete picture, use a website, www.AvWxWorkshops.com. It is a pay site and very much worth the subscription. The "Wx Brief" link does the best job at pulling all of the desired weather products into one spot for you to review.

Next is www.Weathermeister.com Also a great site for getting the overall picture.

As the gov't inexorably moves into user fees, I wonder how these apps will allieviate the need to call in, access the systems and affect the revenue thought to be needed to continue to operate the systems.

They all go through the same set of providers.

If you really believe user fees are "inexorable" for a product that doesn't come from the FAA, you're not going to get around them that way.

Foreflight has great weather features, plus you get a whole bunch of other stuff in addition to weather. Granted it's a bit more expensive but I've yet to see a better weather app.
