Have you guys seen this? I don't know how I missed it!

Anyone tried it? I've got the GRT Horizon HXr EFIS, and love it -- and this would be a huge advance from that!

Hopefully they will be more successful than the www.glass.aero bunch, who seem to have gone missing after their big hype-up at AirVenture 2014.

What is supplying the info to the glasses? The GRT unit in your panel?

Yeah, it connects wirelessly, I think. The EFIS has Bluetooth connectivity.

I'd have to try it. I tried out one of the other ones, and wasn't too keen on the whole wearable thing, it was a bit annoying. I like a panel top HUD though.

Yeah I'd prefer a panel top HUD over something that's attached to my head. Flew plenty of NVG HUD and never really cared to have the symbology everywhere I turned my head. You had to focus in on it and then refocus for distant acuity.

Sat in a C130 earlier this year and did like the fold down HUD. Not sure how much application it would have on a nice VFR day though. I suppose on final not having to take a split second to glance down at your instruments would help.

The HUD is a relic. Helmet mounted displays and wearable tech is where it's at today. Imagine being able to look at the horizon and ask for "airports". Instantly, a handful of identifiers appear hovering in the distance with 10nm, 20nm, and 30nm, indicating position and distance info. As you fly towards the identifier the 10nm begins counting down. Perhaps it's tied into ADS-B and relevant traffic can be displayed. IFR routes superimposed over whatever you're looking at. Possibilities are endless which is why the latest fighters have gone that route. For only $400K you can have your own!

In IMC I can see them being an additional item to induce vertigo.

In my very limited aviation experience it seems way to cool to be under 1000 bucks what's the catch?

Unknown, but if history is a tell, it's not going to work as cool as advertised.

As usual, it's only for experimental aircraft.

Which is why I bought one. ;)

(Edit: The aircraft, not the HUD. Yet....)

I'm confused as to why.:dunno: What needs an installation that can't be done in such a fashion that makes it able to be used in a certified aircraft?

Now it's making more sense 1000 dollar glasses but 70,000 dollar install LOL.

It's driven by the GRT EFIS unit; and that isn't available for certified aircraft.

Exactly, as long as it's not used for primary, there's always a compliant way to have it in the airplane.

Doable, but now you've added $5000 or so to the installation.
    .
Chump change for a certified installation, but maybe more than the HUD installation is worth? Not to mention finding a place to "velcro" a 10.5" EFIS. :)

    It's so ironically stupid...

I'm redoing the panel in a Velocity XLRG and putting the GRT 10.4 EFIS in. The owner also got the glasses so I'll see what it looks like in a couple of weeks...

Sweet! I'm tempted to pull the trigger, and a real PIREP will be appreciated.

Hah. Yeah I stopped by that booth in 2014. They had almost zero of the features they had on the website, and then I saw they had basically just one engineer and passed on the early buy-in. It looks like 2 years later there is still no product.
