We need to make sure this doesn't fall into the hands of 6PC, Nate D. or TimW

Eh, I have a better plan in the works. And it uses nothing flammable.

SCUBA tank, valves drilled out to 1/2" flow, putting 3000psi into a 33' 3" link of pipe, will shoot a potato or apple into the next county.

It's good to see that people can still do semi dangerous (and really cool) things without having the safety Nazis shut them down.

I would take a guess that most of us did stupid things growing up, and were fine.

Not nearly violent enough for me! This is more up my alley:

I stumbled across a facebook page; its a gathering of 'kids I grew up' with, when I was 5-18yrs old.
I am discovering ya, we did ok - but there were some losses. In the last month we learned of innumerable sutures and broken bones I was not aware of, a lost finger, a lost eye, and we are starting to get into the deaths - its amazing how our aging memory wiped out so much bad stuff!

Having said that I have always been on that bandwagon that promotes kids
experimenting and pushing limits vs being nannied and getting fat in front of their electronic gadget.

This was one of my favorite things to do as a kid as July 4th approached. But instead of using water, I would find two cans that (relatively snugly) slide over each other. The smallerwas right-side-up and was the launch pad, the other up-side-down over the top and was the rocket.

I want one.

P.S. I am going to die making it.

Nah, not unless you make it metal, aluminum makes for good shrapnel. It has a 'snap' to the report, that's low compression. If you want to make a bang, there's a much better way, oxyacetylene balloons. We used to get 72" and 24" gallons from a party supply and a tank of helium and string. Take it back to the shop and break out the cutting torch rig. We'd dial in a nice lean cutting miz then turn the gas off at the tanks for the tip to cool without messing up the gas mix. We'd take about 20 of the 24" balloons and fill them with helium and tie them all together with a few feet of a leader. Next turn the tanks on and fill 6-8 of the 72" balloons with oxyacetylene mix and tie them together and join them with the helium balloons. Then we take about 4' of green canon fuse (15 seconds/foot burn rate IIRC) and duct tape it to one of the oxyacetylene balloons, light it and let them go. It would make the news in St Louis every time we'd do it.
