#BAHAMASAIR has fired a captain after a cockpit dispute in Abaco left more than 100 passengers stranded, with officials stressing the incident was isolated and not representative of the airline’s standards.

#The disruption unfolded on Sunday, August 31, when a female First Officer refused to continue flying with the captain on a scheduled Abaco–New Providence flight after he was reported to be vaping in the cockpit. She alerted the Operations Control Centre, citing cockpit dynamics and safety concerns, and refused to operate the flight with him.

#Bahamasair immediately pulled both pilots from duty and dispatched a replacement crew. The ATR turboprop aircraft, registration C6-BFR, eventually departed Marsh Harbour for West Palm Beach, Florida, after 4pm—hours behind schedule.

They don't say just what he was vaping...

Fired for vaping in the cockpit? If you'd get kicked off a flight for doing it as a passenger, you're gonna get fired for doing it as an employee.
I wish I could say the number of pilots I've flown with who vaped in the cockpit was 0. Or one. Or two.

I can say it’s zero for vaping. Dad use to crew chief from Gabreski. That dude smoked a cigar in the cockpit. I can’t tell you the number of dudes I know with a wad of Copenhagen in though. At least they gutted it instead of using a spit cup.

I used to have a copilot who liked to take his last smoke break after the passengers showed up…while the passengers and I loaded bags. I stopped him once and explained to him that he needed to help loading bags instead of the passengers. He was pretty jittery by the end of the 3-hour flight, but after that he took his smoke break before the passengers showed up.

Maybe the first officer was afraid of second hand vape

Chewed for years, never spit. You ain't a real cowboy if ya spit.
But I quit in 1990 as the Term insurance on a life policy was 500$ a year less for nonsmokers.
Don't miss it and now the can of chew is 10$, was 50 cents back when.

I chewed from age 10 to 30. A doctor told me to quit and I did right then, never missed it. Another reason I quit was the cost..went up to a buck. It was 25 cents when I started.

I can't believe the cost of that stuff now.

I chewed from 13 to 21. Started with Skoal for a year or so, then dipped Cope. A can would last me a week or two, so I wasn’t a heavy dipper; some of the guys went through a can a day. And then one day I finished a can and never got around to buying another. Haven’t had a dip since 1988.

I chewed for a few years back in my teens. It was pretty popular on Boy Scout camping trips. Not terribly popular with my girlfriend (now wife), so I quit that. I was a lightweight, I chewed Skoal and Happy Days.
