WAAAM

You have to get there during the day and don’t let the sun go down on you.

I have gotten up to The Dalles near July 4th almost every year for the last 17 years and go to WAAAM on most of the trips.

I live about 100 miles away in McMinnville but if I lived closer, I would definitely be here volunteering.

I do, however, volunteer at the Evergreen museum (Spruce goose museum)
... And that museum is probably why I haven't been to the others. Wasn't even aware of the one at Hood River. I've landed at Tillamook and peeked at the outside of the museum there but never gone in.

I don't know how long you've been at Evergreen, but the first time I went there, they still had the B-17. More importantly, they still had Russell Barney, a retired Lt. Col., USAAF/USAF and WWII B-17 pilot, volunteering there. When I walked over to the B-17 he was there, we got to talking, and eventually he pulled the ropes aside and opened up the plane and gave me the most thorough tour and storytelling about B-17s... FOUR HOURS of fascinating history. I learned a ton... And I didn't see much of the rest of the museum that day!

My favorite air museum.

Kind of out-of-the-way in Hood River, Oregon, but well worth the trip.
I’ve been there 3 times. Once during the Hood River Annual Fly In. If you haven’t done that yet, try to make time. It’s like WAAAM on steroids.

It's a fantastic collection. I go a few times a year.

One of the things I always enjoy seeing is the facade of the hangar from Wally Olson's Evergreen Field in Vancouver, WA where I started my flight training.
