Vote: what is the best econobox bird

Never been in a GA airplane where the view sucked, except in the clouds. It isn't even that bad in airliners.

Yes, it's always better to be in the sky than on the ground, but compared to other GA aircraft, the view in this has got to suck:

Looks like its got a nice big windshield, and no high wing to block the view up (or of the runway between downwind and base).

Depends which Bellanca. Looks like you've assumed a Super Viking, but there are still some Cruisemasters ("Cardboard Connies") flying. I like the price, but the view out of those things has to suck.

Yeah, The Vikings were the only 4 seaters that I saw for sale at Controller.

What does the Cruisemaster have for an engine?

Cherokee Six...just a beefed up, straight legged Arrow with a stretched fuselage, right?

Maybe...kinda, if I was trippin balls.... Although I would have used a Dakota to compare to.

I was doin some figgerin, and I put in for a 185hp straight 35 Bo for mpg/$$$ to win* (figure 20-21mpg at 140), and if you get one that's been cared for, you'll also be in the running for miles/$$$ overall. *This is subject to certified aircraft only.

I'm thinking E series or 470 Continental.

BTW, Life's too short to fly ugly airplanes, Bellancas are all a "swing and a miss". While they all had potential to look good, they all missed due to design compromises to ease and economize construction. Kind of a shame really as they're otherwise pretty decent airplanes if you don't count how heavy and slow they are.

Amen. I probably put more airplanes in that category than most people (like all high wing airplanes that aren't on floats). Think about it, how many of you had a Cessna high wing hanging on a string from the ceiling of your bedroom when you were 8 years old?

How many had a GA anything?

I think there's only a dozen or two Cardboard Connies left flying. I guess that's not so bad, considering only a couple hundred were built.

They started with a 190hp Lyc O-435, and later moved to a 230hp Conti O-470.

The Vikings seem to comare well with other 4 seaters.

But the planes are ugly an their mother dresses them funny. :D

Picking a plane whose parts are now made out of unobtainium is not usually seen in the same sentence as econo......

just my opinion.

Ben.

I don't think I've ever heard someone say that about that line of Bellancas. . . .
