Hi all,

I'll be in Chicago this next weekend (from the afternoon of the 6th through the morning of the 12th) for a meeting and I'm hoping to have a little time to get out to an airport and maybe do a scenic flight around the area. I won't have a lot of time so I'm not really sweating checking out in an airplane ... just plane+instructor and an hour or two.

I'll be smack dab in central Chicago, and I see airports everywhere. Any recommendations for a friendly place?

Cheers

Brian

You want to find "friendly" in Chicago flying an airplane? :yikes::D

You're looking at a drive of an hour at least. Mine is 50 miles and 65 minutes at the best times. I'll recommend my CFI if you're up for it.

I'd suggest you try Clow with recommendations from Grant and Leslie, Lansing (don't know nobody),

The instructor I talked to at Flight World at Chicago Executive seemed like a nice guy. I'll look for the name.

Any are close enough to do a lakefront run in an hour of flying and seeing downtown on a sunny day is spectacular.

The FBO at Clow is A&M Aviation. It's where Leslie and I both got our private and instrument tickets. I'm currently volunteering as webmaster at www.aandmaviation.com.

They have a number of instructors and, for something different, try a helicopter, since you're taking an instructor anyways!

OK, so maybe friendly isn't doable, but Clow looks close enough to be possible. I'll give them a call. Buzzing around in a helicopter does sound like a fantastic idea!

Will report back if I can make it happen. Thanks!

Okay you guys, why leave out the largest and friendliest of all, KDPA (Dupage)?

Any airport in Crook County may provide indirect income to the same administration which destroyed Meigs. Just sayin' without trying to send this to SZ. Choose accordingly.

There are only two airports in Crook County and you don't want either of them, although we know some brave souls who use MDW.
