Looking to install a video system in a Super Decathlon to record some flights/aerobatic manuevers. Anyone have any experience with any systems? Hoping for a reasonable balance between recording quality and expense. Type system, bullet camera, portable DVR, video camera, mounting options?? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

There's somebody out there that does aerobatic rides - I forget if it's a Super D or a Pitts - Either way, it was a newish bird and had a multi-camera setup. One looking in from a wingtip, one facing forward, one looking back at the pilot, and... There was another one somewhere. Tail, maybe?

Either way, if you spend some time with Google you should be able to find them - It sounds like that's exactly the type of setup you're looking for.

Just wait a couple more months. Sony is introducing a small solid state digital video recorder (720 or 1080?). I thought I posted something a couple months ago when the announcement was made, but I don't remember what the title was. A couple of tie-wraps are all that will be required to keep it firmly anchored in place.

edit: found it! Use the search for "New video cam for the cockpit and maintenance"

Thanks for the ideas. The Sony system looks very good but it appears it will retail at about $2300. Since the video is for simply personal enjoyment rather than any professional application, I was hoping to keep costs lower. I opted for a bullet camera and portable DVR. I expect the components to arrive next week and look forward to experimenting with the system. I'll post again when I get some experience with the components. Cost so far about $600.

Looks like a very good mounting system. Had not seen their product before. Thanks for the link.

How do I post an image?
I have tried copy and paste, but it displays the path on my computer, not the image.
I have read the FAQ, but cannot find the references referred to.

Found it... you have to use the advanced button. The FAQ seems to be wrong.

I am using a Canon HV-30 and RAM components. I use a 1/4" mono to 1/8" stereo cable direct from an intercom port to the camera input to capture audio.
