Video: My first "actual" grass field landing.

Man... I'm completely in love with this type of flying. I'm going to have to start making some "back country" buddies.

Very cool! Although it was probably just a "grass" field and not a "soft" field, unless it was wet and muddy.

Nice, looked like you had fun. But one thing, that wasn't a 'soft field' by performance regards, that is just grass. Soft refers to the firmness of the ground itself. Spongy, wet, ground, that is what makes a 'soft field'

Good for you Shane, you found a new and exciting experience, and many more interesting places to visit.
Grass strips present a whole new set of challenges as the strip can change from day to day. You may find that you want to touch down short of or beyond or to the side of a certain area because of a roughness, or a soft wet area. That forces you to be more precise in hitting your touchdown spot and rollout area.

By the way, the first time I flew off a grass strip was the day I soloed many years ago.

Tim graciously allowed me to pop my soft field cherry in his plane at Gastons.

I'm still sad that my second landing wasn't caught on film. I don't think I could pull that off amazing landing again.

It's a good idea to hold the yoke all the way back on landing on grass or "soft" fields. Keep the nose up.

Do you get compensation for that intro? I've seen it on quite a few videos.
