Had my second aerobatics lesson on Sunday. Amazing that I had 1 hour on the hobbs, but compressed all the maneuvers down to 5 minutes.

As I point out in the comments, snap rolls and loops were not bad (for my second lesson).

Aileron rolls to the left looked a lot better then to the right. I'm struggling to get the yoke turned all the way to the stops when turning right, kept getting hung up with my left hand at the 12 o'clock position. During my first lesson, my instructor ran the throttle, this time I ran the throttle so that added some complexity.

I botched the first spin recovery. If you turn up the volume you can make out my instructor saying "let go" and then here him struggle a bit to get us out of the spin. Mental block on my part, I some how got it in my head that I was supposed to hold back pressure until the rotation stopped with opposite rudder, instead of relaxing back pressure with the opposite rudder.

We'll be starting with spins next time. I'm hoping to get out to the airport sooner and find a better place to mount the camera. I found it beneficial to have the video to review.

Interesting that you are doing snaps on lesson 2. Usually, you don't run into those in competition until the Intermediate level.

Have fun with it!

Even though doing acro with a yoke is an unnatural abomination, the A-152 is a fairly nimble little airplane. :D Nice job, and good training! Glad he didn't have to smack you in the head to get you to turn loose of the yoke on that spin. :) And next time, try to get engine to quit a little during the rolls. :) Seems to be a great snapping airplane. Just curious - is he having you unload the elevator after the snap breaks? Lots do them as just yank-and-stomp maneuvers. Unloading the elevator to around neutral will accelerate the snap and reduce the AOA during the snap, which also allows the snap to stop more crisply once opposite rudder and a slight amount of forward elevator is applied. Might help with the over-rotation. But as mentioned, snaps are more of an intermediate level maneuver. You did good! Keep it up!

My instructor received his instruction from Bill Kershner and we are using his book http://www.amazon.com/Aerobatic-Manual-87-Rev-90-William-Kershner/dp/0813800633 for training. The book lists snap rolls as one of the three basic maneuvers along with Aileron Rolls and Loops so they get introduced early in this curriculum.

The C152 snaps pretty good, but you have to add aileron input. So far it's been mainly "yank and stomp" and then add aileron. I understand there is a lot more finesse to that, and the other maneuvers which I will hopefully develop overtime. My brain is thinking in fairly rigid, absolute terms right now :)

Hey Reklats,

Wow that looks like fun.. If your interested in getting your video outside the plane, I sell a mount that I designed to mount a camera on Cessna Wing struts.

Here is a link to a few videos:
This is along video, but it has pics of the mount at the end..

Pics of the mount on various planes: I sell them for $125 http://cloudbaseengineering.imgur.com/

I don't have a website yet so if your interested feel free to email me. addicted2climbing@gmail.com

Best regards,

Awesome! Thanks for posting the video!

Mary and I are scheduled (for the THIRD time) to fly to Hondo, TX for our first aerobatics lessons this Sunday. Keeping our fingers crossed that we don't have to cancel this time.

Who will you be flying with at Hondo? I was not aware of anyone currently offering acro instruction in SA? Thanks!
