Looking to fly my Diamond Twinstar to San Antonio from Kansas, wondering about best places to land and what fbo? Late April.

KSSF is great.
I asked the same question here a few years ago and someone recommended that airport I flew in and it is where I would go back if I were headed that direction again

5C1 Boerne stage is nice, but not inexpensive. Easy in and out to north side SA.

I’ve flown to KSAT twice, Skyplace FBO both times. Approach, Tower, and Ground are easy to work with. 182

NW side: 5C1; Vector landing fee. My old base.

Central: SSF; towered field, crossing runways. My current base.

SW: CVB

NE: BAZ; towered, crossing runways.

SSF, then SAT. Skip SKF and 5C1.

Interesting to heard that 5C1 is a no-go these days. We used to use that spot when we were flying down from Iowa to visit my sister and it seemed like a ghost town type airport. I don't remember having a landing fee or anything. That was 15+ years ago, though, so I guess things have changed.

I bought my plane there eightish years ago and spent a day there doing the pre buy. I had the same reaction.

The previous owner sold out and retired a few years ago. Previous owner’s approach was to do the minimum. New owners have been investing in upgrades and creating new revenue sources, one of which is landing fees for transient aircraft. For those of us based there, some of the changes are positive and some are negative. Overall slightly net positive I would say. We pay more, but we get a little more.
