US firefighters killed in Aussie water bomber crash

Those tankers, and their crews, live hard lives. There's a video out there somewhere of a C-130's wings folding up fighting fires a few years back.. horrifying

It always perplexes me, things like this, though, and when we hear "yeah but that plane did pipeline inspections" or "yeah but it was a trainer so it had a lot of landings"...

I would imagine when operated within its envelope planes should perform as advertised.. understand fire crews likely pull a lot of high Gs and are in constant state of turbulence, but I also imagine they're going rather slow, at or below Va

Sad indeed. I feel like mass scale fire fighting is ripe territory for drones
