Frustrated.

Purchased the obstacle and terrain databases online, and of course the skybound hardware I have isn't compatibile, but I can buy Garmin's hardware. So I did.

Can't get the update to go to the card reader, after numerous tries. First chrome isn't compatible with the necessary plugin, then I download the plugin in IE and get an error. Then I use the beta version of Garmin's online updater and the process starts but of course terminates in an unknown error after 3 tries.

Can't even get the databases on the card. What a pain, I guess I'll call Garmin's support and see if I can get any help there:(

Maybe just return the who thing, I don't know anyone who updates the terrian database, not the best for telephone poles and the mountians haven't moved much.

I hate proprietary interfaces. At least the later Garmin (and all the Salem stuff) used standard NTFS filesystems on SD or CF cards. Of course, Jepp has lost the source code to some of their JSUM modules (or that's the excuse they gave me that the GNS480 and MX20 can't be added to the MAC version).

I was surprised when a friend of mine with a G1000 in a 2007 Diamond updated his generic SD card using the built in port on his PC.

Yep, You can use anything (either a built in port or some generic USB programmer) that exposes the Windows NT filesystem to the software.

The GNS480 and MX20 actually came with a $5 SanDisk USB programmer a far cry from the piece of crap Skybound (I or II) writer.
