Hey all,
I am currently attempting to get a class II medical at the age of 37. I am not sure what I need to do in regards to a past misdemeanor. Exactly one month before my 21st birthday I was at a party in college and got an underage possession of alcohol ticket. I have reached out to the court and they do not keep records past 10 years so they didn't have anything. I did a request from the National Driver Register and there is nothing on my record there. I did a background check on myself and the charge came up, but no other information. I honestly do not remember if I lost my license or not. My mom thinks she remembers me having to carry around my passport to go out so she thinks I did lose it. The law states that it is mandatory 6 month loss of license, not sure if that was the case 17 years ago. I definitely do not want to lie, but also do not want to unnecessarily give information. Should I go ahead and just check 18v and expect a form from the FAA? Would this cause any other action than just a letter from the FAA regarding alcohol? Would the examiner need paperwork if I do need to check the box? The clerk from the court is sending me a certified letter stating they have no records past 10 years so hopefully that will suffice if I do need to check 18v. Thank you for the help!

I got a minor in 2005, 30 day dl suspension. Have been reporting it as such and never had a question from the FAA on it.

If your DMV search is negative for anything else, you report it.
The AME will 99% take a history and issue you.

I am unsure if I need to mark 18 (v) or (w). Since I do not recall if I lost my license or not, I am leaning towards marking 18v in an abundance of caution. Does this seem reasonable? In the comments section should I include that I truly do not know if my license was revoked or suspended and that I tried everything I could to find out or just include the date of the event and misdemeanor underage possession charge? Thanks.

(w). (v) is for operating a vehicle. (w) is for nonspecific convictions. Doesn't really much matter one way or the other, because you're going to have to explain what happens as Bruce pointed out above. Having a ten year license history showing you have nothing else will help. You can get that pretty easily at the DMV in most states. I had to run a history when I was getting approved to operate emergency vehicles.
