I have been preparing to begin flying lessons for a few months now, studying and saving money.
I wish I had looked into the medical more, I see now that my UC will require some additional paper work.

I think I meet all the criteria for a CACI however I will need to schedule a visit with my gastroenterologist and get a detailed clinical progress note from him.
Can anyone tell me if this note from my doctor will require a colonoscopy? I'm due for one in another 18 months, I doubt if insurance will cover it early.

Once I have my class 3 can I fly under Basic Med if there are no changes to my UC? Or will my UC require a class 3 renewal with the associated gastroenterologist visit?
I may be willing to undergo one colonoscopy to get my medical, I know I don't want to do it every two years.

I have an appointment with an AME in a couple weeks, I may change it to a consult to get these questions answered if I need to.

Yes, as long as you have completed the requirements for the issued medical. Get BM as soon as you have your medical certificate in hand, then let the medical expire without re application. Make sure your AME knows what you are going to do and have him submit NO information on your behalf once the SI requirements for that medical are complete and the medical has expired. You do not have to wait for the SI authorization to expire, just the medical certificate itself; in most cases the medical certificate has a bit shorter term than the authorization for for the Special Issuance.

Why not fly under the MOSAIC Sport Pilot limits now and wait for the normal colonoscopy, then do the one time Class 3?

Will it require a Special Issuance?
From what I read here:

I had assumed if it qualifies for a CACI it doesn't need a Special Issuance.
I'm still figuring all of this out as I go.

Initial Special Issuance – Requires FAA Decision

Having said that, it appears you will likely not need a current colonoscopy so long as the current, detailed Clinical Progress Note addresses everything asked for. You should probably print off that information and get it to your specialty provider so they understand exactly what’s needed.

Thought I'd update this incase anyone else is in the same situation.

I saw my gastroenterologist last week and got the detailed clinical progress note.
Saw the AME today and he issued my 3rd Class medical.

I was more worried about my blood pressure, I've been restricting my coffee intake and monitoring my BP at home for a week.
The numbers were OK. Before I went to the doc. office today I had to break up a dog fight at home.

My BP was fine, I'm drinking a celebratory cup of coffee now.
