Is there a place to ***** about weather here? :)

Planning to fly to LA area tomorrow but looks like moderate turbulence. All part of the fun though. I already have a backup plan.

I wish that turbulence were the weather complaint I had this weekend. I am picking up a new puppy tomorrow. The drive is 5 hours each way but with ceilings around 700 feet all the way along the route I am left little choice but to drive it. There was supposed to be a fast-moving front leaving us with rain and snow on Friday, clouds today, and mostly sunny tomorrow. Now the sun's earliest scheduled appearance isn't until Wednesday.

Enjoy your bumpy ride. Just think about all of us down on the ground having an equally bumpy but much slower and less fun ride.

Go try it the forecasts have been known to be wrong .unless you have to be someplace. A few bumps can be an iritant, but at least your flying.

Oh no! New puppy though... that'll be awesome! What kind? I have a 13.5 year old lab. She's not slowing down though! Lol

The trip is purely for fun to see a concert.. And to go flying! I'll keep watching. Regardless I'm definitely flying... If it's nuts I can land elsewhere and rent a car.

We're getting a samoyed but all my past experience, other than one mutt we had when I was a little kid, has been with labs. In fact we have Dad's British lab here now while he's out of town. So I have diligently been studying skijoring on the theory that, if we have a good winter, I can put a set of skis on the J-3 Cub, strap a pair of cross-country skis to the plane, fly somewhere interesting with the samoyed, and then go for a run together. Failing that, I'm still going to teach her how to pull the airplane in and out of the hangar.

I fly up and down CA all the time in Airmet Tangos...usually get bounced around more with no active Airmets. Unless you have squeemish passengers, I would not let that slow ya down on that alone. You have lots of altitude and route options should one start getting bumpy. Keep an eye on winds aloft over the peaks and plan your route accordingly. Pireps on your route ahead are more valuable to keep an eye on.

That's awesome!!!! So cool.

Interesting. Ok. Thanks for that. Yeah I'm coming in from the west over Santa Barbara. And just solo... Gusty today at VNY but not terrible. Was right down the runway earlier

I don't pay too much attention to AIRMET TANGO for moderate turbulence either, unless I'm flying over the Sierra. It means you need to watch the terrain (no upwind peaks) and you may need to hunt for altitude. Wind shear might scare me off a real short runway if it's more than 5 knots, but a long runway is fine. SIGMETs for severe turbulence are more serious.

Good to know… I played it safe and landed at Santa Barbara. Guess I could've made the trip then turned around if was too bad but that's OK. I'm OK with my decision… Pretty cool to have Santa Barbara in the logbook

How was the flight?

I've only been flying for a year now... but every time I've seen a Tango, it's a non-issue in Southern and Central California. Makes me grateful to be here, whereas I hear pilots in the rest of the country experience actual bumpiness.

Yeah airmet tango for turbulence is almost a constant up in the northeast in the winter and it's really hardly ever a big deal. I've flown on days with no airmet and gotten bounced around so turbulence remains one of those fairly unpredictable things. I started a thread here a while back about predicting turbulence and the consensus was its virtually impossible to do with any accuracy.

The flight was awesome!!! Heading back up to Bay Area with a stop in SLO today. Yeah, there's so many good flying days in California. Love it here!

Interesting. Well, the consensus seems to be "be aware of the AIRMET tango but don't run from it" ... I'm cool with that. A good lesson- I could have continued and just turned around if it was nasty. All good though. Landing at Santa Barbara was very cool. It all adds to the story.

And bonus points with the wife for being safe. :)

In my experience, wives appreciate every no-go decision you make. On the airmet tangos, I agree: Be aware of it, not afraid of it. It will probably exhaust you to fly for hours in moderate turbulence and you'll feel less than 100% when you get there, but it probably won't kill you.

Great advice here… Thanks everyone. While I'm down here I might as well fly around a little bit and see some stuff

Dude....if you're landing at San Luis Obispo, do yourself a favor, get a car, drive to Cinco De Mayo (A little mexican joint off of 101, and get their churros....YOU'RE WELCOME.....

And if you're really grateful for the advice, send a churro or two my way as well...im in Livermore! :)

I have family that I visit by flying into SLO (or SBP if you wanna be all technical about it) every couple of months. I'm a sucker for a good Mexican food. I will use this tip. Often. I need to fly over to Oceano too... if you haven't been to Old West Cinnamon rolls in Pismo Beach you haven't lived. Grab a dozen, go home, freeze 'em, then nuke 'em when you get get a hankerin'.

Shoot! I just saw this. Will head to SLO again soon. One of my colleagues is there. Will definitely get some cinnamon rolls and churros. Delicious!!!
