UAVs coming to a location near you

It's all part of our automated future that is sure to come. In one hundred years humans will probably not even have to wipe their own butts, much less have to walk to a bathroom. We will have robots that will do everything for us, from keeping house to transporting us. The term "work" will not even be in our language.

The one thing for sure we will not have is flying cars....forget that.

Someone in a plane flying overhead doing this work, was an advancement from someone on horseback riding out and doing the same thing, but taking a lot longer to do it.

I don't have a problem with technology advancing all those years ago to the point were pilots could do this work, and I don't have a problem with advancements in technology where the pilot no longer has to be sitting in the plane, to do the same job.

A UAV examining crops sounds like one of the first reasonable missions I've heard of from the things. Of course, the UAV needed could easily be purchased from Radio Shack and flown by a teenager, though I suspect that won't wind up being the case.

It can cost less then a c-150, and cost a LOT less to operate.

Depends on the airframe.

Its pretty hard to fly for less than a c-150. If a current generation of UAV is cheaper than a cessna, its an small RC plane with a camera, and not much more.

Which is all you need for crop survey. Scan on various wavelengths and you can determine plant health and water uptake. The problem with some people is that they automatically assume the worst so they can have something to ***** about. Every UAV is not a Predator.

I for one, welcome our buzzing low-level quad-copter Monsanto overlords.

I'd like to see UAV used to monitor COPS.

I'll launch one out ahead of my route to check for speed traps.
