U.S. KC-135 down in Kyrgyzstan

Damn, bad week indeed. I always flew from Eielson AFB in AK back home to Grissom on the KC-135's

Condolences to crew and their families.

Ahhh...we have a KC-135 NG unit right down the road from me...

Been a horrible week in that part of the world. Talk about the rule of 3's....damn!

Now saying three people were on board. The U.S. military didn't give the number of those on the plane and said "the status of the crew is unknown."

"The plane was a U.S. Air Force KC-135 tanker aircraft, according to the U.S. 376th Air Expeditionary Wing Public Affairs Transit Center at Manas, near Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The crew and aircraft are assigned to the transit center."

Why are we now making our airbases or units sound like bus stops? :dunno:

Not bus stations; truck stops. They did apparently only stop there for fuel.

Hmmmm...I wonder of the TN ANG could put "Pilot" logos on the sides of the KC-135s in the 134th ARW...the Governor's brother is the CEO of Pilot.

i guess the plane, but not necessarily the crew, is from across the street.

yea the paper says the markings on the tail say the plane is from McConnell. However that doesn't mean it was a McConnell crew.

Looking like either an inflight breakup or someone brought it down

saw a picture of the vertical stab laying in a field. quote from eye witness describing it falling in 3 pieces. another quote from a local saying they hadn't found the front of the plane or something like that. inflight breakup would be a really bad deal here. of course so would getting shot down. in flight breakup would have serious consequences on the rest of the fleet though I imagine.

Why the heck not? The air force blue uniform makes a person who wears it look like a bus driver, might as well complete the illusion!!! :D

Scott
USAF 1980-1992 and hated the fricken' blue bus driver uniform! Thank Odin for flight suits, utilities and eventually BDUs!

Because it is. It's the last stop before entering Afghanistan. It's also a required stop when leaving Afghanistan. It's basically a holding area where you high five the out going unit on your way to combat.
