Just in case you're wondering whether or not to come to the Alamo Liaison Squadron's Bluebonnet Picnic / Fly-in, here are two of the reasons you should - even if you have to drive!

Mr. Clemons and Mr. Conser actually served with the same WW2 division flying and maintaining L-4s and L-5s. At times their tents were literally 300 yards or so from the Japanese lines. They even told me a story today about jacking the aircraft up every night on blocks so the tide wouldn't wash them off the beach!

Now, 65 years later, they have joined us this weekend for an L-bird reunion! Mr. Conser is here all the way from the Washington / Oregon area and Mr. Clemons is from Houston. We also have an arrival late this evening from the north Texas area.

I'll be honest and tell you that the runway isn't great. It's soggy, but I was able to use it and land the L-5 on it this afternoon during a lull in the storm. It's pretty sandy at our place, so if it doesn't rain too hard tonight, and the weather forecasters are wrong, it might be OK to land on. Regardless, we think you'll enjoy the day if you have to drive.

Here's why I wanted to fly...

There are few things more fun in aviation than putting up a friendly old pilot into his old seat and going airborne! Mr. Clemons was a mechanic and never got his license, but had about 140 hours of time in the L-birds before he came back home!

For those who've missed the previous announcements, here's a link to a previous thread.

Oh, and I should mention that we're having a nice silent auction, at least one activity for the children, and the wildflowers were really pretty today!
