Maledivian air taxi is one of the launch customers for the Viking 400. Their fleet is getting a bit long in the tooth and there is nothing else like it.
I saw that one in the factory while visiting family on Vancouver Island over Christmas. Eight or 10 years ago I had a chance to do several circuits in one, and found that it flew like a huge 172 except that its takeoff and landing was considerably shorter (lightly loaded). There were about 900 of them built by deHavilland before production ceased in 1988. So many operators worldwide want to buy them that Viking bought the type design and has started producing them again. They're a really sturdy truck of an airplane. Lots of them in Canada's north.
