TU-195 Bear Bomber Report

That's a nasty aircraft, we got to fly wing tip to wing tip about once a month in the gulf of tonkin back in the day, we could hear them over the noise of the WV.

An obsolete aircraft with an obsolete mission. Still, a remarkable machine for it's time.

Yeah, what a beast, but I happen to think it's a beautiful beast.

Their track was out of Moscow, down over India, out into the Indian Ocean, east to Malaysia, and up the coast to Korea and back to Moscow.

when they pulled along side they would be fully armed, and we had a berry pistol, and maybe a F8U Crusader. but Ivan never played much they would just wave and then pull off. with the F8 in trail.

that is one huge aircraft I thought it looked twice the size of the Willie Victor, and was a whole lot faster.

I got a number of Bear, Badger and May intercepts as a controller in the Indian Ocean. The Tomcat guys always carried a camera and would usually snap photos and I could usually get one after the flight ... all stuffed away in a scrapbook somewhere now.

Here's some good photos if you scroll down (not mine, but similar)
