In my hunt for 3 seat Wacos....I stumbled across a Travel Air 4000 for sale. Price on the TA is a little lower than market for Wacos. Can anyone comment on their handling qualities?

Not directly, but wasn't that the child of W. Beech and C. Cessna? How bad could it be... I knew one guy who had one and liked it, used it for hauling rides.

Only flown the UPF-7 with a w-680 and a locking tailwheel. I liked the Stearman better - partly because of the steerable tailwheel. Both airplanes would probably be just right w/300hp. I think the taperwings are cool.

Interesting....I've heard the UPF-7s are alot easier to land than a Stearman due to the very wide gear.

they are common ride hoppers on the american barnstormers tour. I think they had 3 or 4 travel airs going when they were in Ames a few years back.

I think my choice of the genre would be an N3N.

Nice planes and prices are very reasonable.....but front seat doesn't take two. It is a whole lot easier to convince my wife that we need a new plane if I can take both kids off her hands for a Saturday morning!

not to mention you can make a lot more money with a 3 seater than a 2 seater.
