Final Approach
I read somewhere that a pilot is considered a trained observer, but can't recall where. If anyone knows that would be great, but my question is at what point is this the case (comm, pvt, ATP)?

Does context matter?
UFO's?
Just threw something out there to say the context doesn't matter. It only matters that the general populus considers the observation skills of a pilot above the norm. I don't recall where I gleaned that bit of data and wondered at what point would the general citizen consider it to 'kick in' (assuming they understand a little about the certification structure).

+1We are above the norm...
Just ask us...![]()
UFO's?
Well, it IS in the AIM:
7-6-4. Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) Reports
a. Persons wanting to report UFO/Unexplained Phenomena activity should contact an UFO/Unexplained Phenomena Reporting Data Collection Center, such as the National Institute for Discovery Sciences (NIDS), the National UFO Reporting Center, etc.
b. If concern is expressed that life or property might be endangered, report the activity to the local law enforcement department.

IOW, "Don't tell us, we don't want to hear it." and it may do you harm to. Tell someone who wants to hear it.
