...but "type unknown altitude unknown".

Always gets me nervous from NorCal approach. Is that a transponder-less plane? Never did see them.

And of course they don't bother to tell me "no factor" until I ask again. All totally normal? It was a very calm day today for some reason too given the great weather.

Either no transponder or Mode C was inop. Should've told you when traffic was no longer a factor or traffic no longer observed.
 
Those aren't too uncommon. Most of the time they are crop dusters when I get that call and they are very low, but that's just when I've seen them.
