I apologize, it was a mistake to post this here. I'll network with people I know to work a bit harder to save up for some flying time. Thanks all!

You'll have much better luck using your skills to make money than use that money to make airplanes fly.

Am I suffering deja vu? I could have sworn that this exact same thread existed about year ago, with Jesse's exact response afterward.

Byron,

How much do you think your time is worth? Serious question. I have a business and an airplane in the Austin area.

When offering web development services, one might verify that their Linkedin URL actually linked. :)

Also, listing 100 techs makes me assume you suck at all of them. Just saying.

Good luck on what you're trying to do.

I fixed it to a normal link.. I can't help it if the link BB code is broken on the forums. Next time i'll write a test case for it.

Next time, why don't you just ask me about my experiences.. 25+ years of messing with computers and progressing through multiple IT fields from helpdesk to dot coms to fortune 500s and defense contractors as well as my own hobbies has kept me well rounded. Just saying.

BTW, my listing of a broad range of topics is mostly just to say that there is nothing too big or too small. I just want to fly. Obviously not everyone needs Oracle databases or RAC clusters or wants to manage 1000 virtual machines running VMware and setup provisioning, cloning, patching and maintenance procedures but I listed them anyway.

Even if you have small projects, such as documentation conversions from Office to HTML or need a Wiki setup or have some questions about what laptop to buy or anything, i'm willing to help. It can be something as small as a few bucks in paypal or if you have a good size project, let me know.

I have a day job, i'm not looking to prove my career or experience to bill out at an insane rate, I've worked at Oracle and did the consulting thing and its not for me. I've had some medical and dental setbacks financially and instead of going into debt I thought i'd ping the community and see if I could barter/work/trade to keep my dreams alive. I let it slip away once in 2002, i'm not letting it get away from me this time :)

I wasn't so much criticizing the experience as I was mentioning that the marketing of those experiences in bulk dilutes their perceived value individually.

You might get better results by selecting a single in-demand item which a lot of Pilots may have an interest in (for example, go sell Jay some SEO optimizations :D ) -- and trying to barter for that. Small-biz compatible stuff may be the best way, since there seem to be a lot of those types around here (myself included) -- maybe offer to do a website for 10 hours of dual and see if anyone bites. I'm sure there's a magic offer point where you'll get some good conversations started.

When I see that a single place sells chinese food and donuts, I assume both are lousy, and I'm unwilling to take the gamble. I don't want an Oracle DBA doing my excel macros, however well he may do them. If I saw an offer solely to do excel macros for flight time, and I had that need, I'd consider the gamble.

Hey! I'm offended! Oracle DBAs can write excel macros that run circles around the common microsoft developer. What you DON'T want is to turn that developer loose in a database with SYSDBA privs! :D just yanking your chain.

To the OP - hi from another ex-Oracle survivor ... my employee id was 11xxx ... so it was a much smaller (but still brutal) place to work back then.

That's for sure, the DBA's can fubar the database well enough on their own. :-) Just a friendly cage rattle there, I'm an Oracle / PeopleSoft developer.

True, in future posts I'll post more specific ideas.. I was merely testing the water and seeing if I could find anything..

If people need more seo, site optimization or help with site development, I can do that too :) (key word analysis, market analysis, traffic analysis and custom or Google analytics, Google adwords and Microsoft advertising campaigns & targeting..)

I'm mr. cover my tracks. I always take a snapshot before I do anything, keep rman backups and if I ever mess with a table or code i'll back that up or export the tables before I do anything. I love working in an environment where I have this capability. If I make a mistake I just revert the snapshot, recover the table or rollback the transaction :)

Most of the time though I'm fixing problems oracle hasn't fixed yet, I spend way too much time working bugs on support.oracle.com! Especially with oracle ebs!

In this person's defense, I have been developing professionally for 20 years, and have picked up at least 3 new skills per year. It is an occupational hazard.
