Hi,
on getting the logbooks for my new Luscombe i have the logbooks back until 1956 ( based at Springfield OH ), and would love to try and find any relevant info of its time back then, and also see if i can track it back further (not having the books).
Its been in the UK since 1989 and was under the reg N71822
any suggestions on possible ways to try and track anything?
the last owner lists the address and FPS which i found means free postal service, and i assume no way of finding that persons history?

cheers
Mike

If there are any 100 year old pilots and mechanics around Springfield, Ohio, I doubt they remember that plane. But I guess you could start calling nursing homes.

Hello Mike,

First of all, ignore Clifford as all he can offer is some snarky remark since he's clueless.

I went to the FAA CARES site (https://cares.faa.gov/) and inputted the former FAA registration. The records are there in the archives with registrations going back to date of production and all former airworthiness records that the aircraft records branch has on file. I am looking at them right now.

You can either set up an account and download them online or order a CD from aircraft records and have it mailed to you.

It can be a bit of a pain to sign up for, but register an account with CARES.

Hope this helps.

Maybe this place. There are others like it. Google aircraft records. https://www.aerospacereports.com/services/complete-aircraft-records

Yeah. Private businesses like above take care of that ‘bit of a pain to sign for’ for you for a fee. I’ve used them before when shopping for planes

getting close  - 1947 ohio aviation ( who took delivery from Luscombe in 46) and skyways who had ownership in 47...

Also try newspapers.com and look up previous owners and even try the registration number. Sometimes interesting tidbits come up.

interesting little tit bit ive come cross - as i now know that Ed and Stanley Lavins were the first owners at the exact time..

( Dec 27th 1946 - THE JOURNAL HERALD from DAYTON -
Piqua Children Get Yule Plane Ride PIQUA -Airplanes with 55 local children gave Santa Claus a little belated competition here Christmas morning when they viewed the city and vicinity by air as a gift from the Salvation Army. Youngsters gathered at Salvation Army headquarters where they were furnished transportation to the local airport.

Planes were donated by Parvin Brown, Piqua flight instructor; Stanley Lavins, manager of Piqua airport, and Ed Lavins. Pilots were Stanley Lavins, Joseph Karns, Ed Lavins and Dale Westfall. The children were taken up, two at a time, in Luscomb-Silvaire and Taylorcraft ships )
