Today's Field Trip

Went to see Columbine II arrive in Virginia today. Nothing like the sound of the 4 radials on a Connie, complete with white smoke from the left inboard after rollout.

Columbine II was the first plane designated Air Force 1, and the only former AF1 in private hands.

I got my first "save" as a controller on a Constellation. They were refurbishing it for a test flight and while taxiing to the runway, #3 burst into flames. I was working ground control at the time and told them "it appears number three engine is on fire." "Ground...um...it is....OH IT IS!...we're going pull off to the side and get out." "I'll roll the trucks."
