TKM MX-300 is $2900 new, is very much solid state, and there's nothing old era about it...

The MX-300 is a good option for guys with old Cessna radios who want to update without tearing the panel apart. And the OP's price appears fair.
 
I bought one with a warranty on eBay in 2008 for $800 and thought it was a very good radio. I had an alignment adjustment when I had it tested on receipt (cost $39). It was a good radio and I had zero issues. It was still in the plane and working fine when I sold it last month.
