Hi, there's a part 141 school in were the time building works the next way.

The hour cost for C172 SP is $150, but if you fly with another pilot you pay $75 each. So if the flight lasted 1hr. and each pilot flew 0.5 hrs you can log your 0.5 plus the other pilot 0.5, having in total 1 hr of flight despite you just payed half and flew half.

Is this possible/legal? Is there a Part on FAR that states something about this?

I don't know of a citation from the FAR/AIM, but I've participated in several flights this way in the club's Skylane. Both of us are members and properly checked out and legal to operate the aircraft. One of us is PIC and is paying for the rental costs as we go out toward to our destination. The other is PIC and paying the rental costs for the return ride.

The line to keep in mind for your purpose is that the non-PIC pilot is just a passenger and the time cannot go into the logbook. You might gain some beneficial experience and wisdom, but the loggable time goes to the PIC operating the aircraft.

See incessant logging threads. You can only both log it if one is under the hood. And since you'll never be under the hood for the entire duration, ever, you'd never come out with both having an hour logged.

So, as described, nope. Not legal.
