I assume that since lightning strikes there must be significant vertical movement in Thunder Snow. I wonder how strong it is?

Sorry, that just reminded me of a short bit by Lewis Black. :D (Cleaned up, and you'll need to imagine Lewis Black's signature inflections... funny nonetheless :)

The weather in this country is completely out of control and nobody seems to care about it. I knew we were in trouble 12 years ago when I was in Boston, MA and in 4 days in February, I experienced 5 seasons. It was 30, it was 60, it was 90 and it was 12. And on the last day, there was thunder, lightning and snow together. And I had not done drugs. Cause when you're lying in bed, you hear thunder outside, and you get up to look, you have an expectation. And it's not snow with lightning behind it. That's not right.
They don't even write about that kind of weather in the BIBLE. And I imagine if a prophet had SEEN that kind of weather, after he wiped the poop out of his pants, he'd have told us about it. I was supposed to work that night, I said I'm not coming in. I'm scared to death, cause I know what the next season's going to be....locusts.

thats pretty good William.

And pretty much describes the weather in Iowa the last few weeks.

Yeah well at least you guys get snow. We either get dreary rain or ice. No fun white fluffy stuff to play in.

(And before anyone asks, I'll pass on any proposals to ship some to me. :p )

That's what sucks about the past couple of weeks, though -- we're getting a nice layer of ice to knock out power and make things slick THEN we get ~11" of snow on top of that. NOT fun stuff. Today we're getting a plethora of winter weather -- rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow.

We had freezing rain, snow, sleete AND Thunder at the same time this morning!...:(

Funny how the strange comination of thunder and lightning, during a snowstorm is so unsettling.

Having been in the ski industry for over 30 years, I saw it often enough, but it just seemed wrong... And of course, a good enough reason to get the heck off the hill!

The first and only time I heard "thunder-flurries" forecast was when I was living in Calgary. It came as a total shock to me that such a thing existed.
