Was browsing YouTube checking out flying videos and came across this “gem” of a good example of why we have the hazardous attitudes in ADM posted on the internet for the world to see. I’m talking about the last second runway change taking place around 3:30. Thoughts? Anybody else rejecting a go-around and talking ATC into attempting that?

Something about that entire thing made me just a little sick to my stomach. As to the landing, I think it was a stupid thing to do.

Oh lighten up. I think it was creative and if you know your plane well that's no big deal. Everyone is so quick to jump down other people's throats just because something is beyond *their* comfort zone.

Kind of true. I mean, I saw no evidence they bothered to look for other aircraft on the initial approach they were cleared for, so not having time to check for other craft before swerving over to the other runway is no big deal since they’re not bothering to do such things anyway.

OR if they had adequate situational awareness they knew that there wasn't traffic on or for the other runway. Aircraft don't just appear into and out of existence like quarks and muons.

Such back seat pilots, *sometimes* things happen outside of perfect flight school mile wide patterns.

How do you get the situational awareness when you’re not looking out the windows

I didn’t really say they shouldn’t do it in the first place I said I wouldn’t have done it and I think it was stupid.

I have 0 issue with that runway switch. I have had it happen a number of times at towered fields. Both as a request from tower and a request to tower.

I saw them looking out both the front and side windows a number of times. So not sure what lack of situational awareness you are referring to.

I didn't like the video or watch the whole video either, just about 30 seconds prior to the runway switch. But did notice they looked out the window.

I don't have a problem with a last minute runway change.

I do have a problem with their runway change and then touching down with only 1000 feet left on 22L. They landed near the touch down zone for 4R.

The last min runway change didn’t bother me but fact that it took that much of a turn at that low of an altitude with that short of runway remaining to get on it made me question the decision making

Would I have done that? Nope. Do I care if this guy did it? Not really. Would I have told the professional yooootooob documentary film-maker in the right seat to put that ******n camera down when I'm trying to land?.... yes.

But I do like the facial expressions on the pylot just before touchdown... kind of like... OooooOOoohhhhh....

Am I happy I gave this guy a Youtoooob view?.... no. But it's a slow work-day. Maybe I'll give DannyG some views now.

Both planes look like they can be reused, so I'm not seeing the issue.

Well If he wouldn’t have been hugging the Cessna so tight on 22R tower wouldn’t have sent him around. Watching his other vids, he seems like the type of pilot who wants to push everything up the limit.

    ah, Matt Guthmiller..

I guess I don't see the issue. He asked and tower said sure, plane and pilot were both fine. What's the hazardous attitude?

Love him or hate him this guy flies *a lot* so he's quite familiar with his plane and I didn't get the impression he wasn't situationally aware

Having said that, I don't watch his videos. My YouTube videos now are mostly either Juan Brown, Scott Purdue, the occasional Steveo.. and sometimes if I want to hear banjo music I'll see what Dan Gryder is up to

I didn't look close, but seemed like there was some video thrown to the cutting room floor so to speak, so I think the landing looked sketchier than it probably was.

I sorta like to play a similar trick in the car. Once I learned how to adjust my side mirrors to properly eliminate blind spots I can change lanes without the head turn to look over my shoulders....sometimes sorta freaks out passengers

yes an accident waiting happen, dumb thing to do at a low altitude, showboating for the camera, ad way too many cameras. and screwing with the avionics for such a short flight, never watching this guy again, he is dangerous

What is the proper length of a flight where it's okay to "screw with the avionics?"

I wouldn't have done it, but I don't fly as much as he does.

Apparently, 1000' is enough to land a Bonanza, right?
