You’d think the state treasurer would have some juice, but Tim Cahill found himself squeezed by the fuzz after he was caught with contraband peaches at Logan International Airport.
......................
“If this is the way the federal government treats people when they come into this country, it’s distressing,” Cahill said.

I file that in the "goes around, comes around" file.

Here is the classic line:

It didn’t appear to me that they knew who I was nor cared,” he said.

Well good for them! Oh its just peaches you say. Thats fine until the schmo brings in some insect in the peach that decimates the Peach orchards in the North East. Hell if he flew into Atlanta they would probably have really gone nuts on him.

On the other hand if it was obviously some oversight they certainly should have been polite but I wonder how much of thier behaviour resulted from his using the "I'm a gov't official line"

Hmmm. Not really a what comes around goes around situation seeing as how massport and customs aren't really the same thing. It would have been more entertaining if he had been busted walking around on the ramp without a Massport ID badge.

So, first off, using the herald as a source for truth isn't the best idea. It's like the New York Post... :vomit:

Anyways, from what I have read, he DIDN'T pull rank or say anything about his office. What actually happened is, his young daughter brought some peaches along for the flight and promptly forgot they were in his bag. What got under his skin was the LEVEL to which he was treated, and the mannerism (one that I can attest, customs and border people seem to be the most unfriendly people in the entire Government system I have contact with).

So... anyways. Not really sure of the point. I just don't see it the way the Herald sees it, and I see it closer to the way the Globe saw it.

My $0.02.

What was that line?

"...of the people, for the people, by the people..." ?

and then... "alpha hotels exempt"
