This one in time Band Camp

Re: This one time Band Camp

At that time, seminude band members were alleged to have danced suggestively and there were reports of women being forced to kiss other women to be allowed to enter bathrooms on a bus.

Where's the misconduct? :)

Re: This one time Band Camp

"Reports of band members' hazing, alcohol use and inappropriate sexual behavior prompted the university to put the band on probation after the trip."

But were they ever put on double secret probation? :dunno::rofl:

Re: This one time Band Camp

Not even close:D We used to play festivals and we'd load up tuba cases with trashbags full of ice and beer with our liquor bottles in our personal instrument cases. Joe, our band bus driver, would turn off his hearing aid nand flip up his mirror. Our band director would hand us our schedule of when and where all the groups had to play with instructions "Be there on time and sober enough to play". Band was an excellent way to kill 2 hrs a day as well.

I'm lucky enough to get Badgers tickets once or twice a year and was at the game yesterday.

I knew ahead of time that the band would not be there. During the game, it really felt like something big was missing and seemed unusually quiet. It really detracted from the experience, especially since I like watching the band more than I like watching football.

And then the Badgers lost, so Badger fans had even more to be depressed about... and then we had today's Brewers and Packers losses. And now it's raining. :( Hopefully we can all survive Monday!

I heard you were getting 6' of snow and freezing rain tonight....

Wow. How dumb are they to be on probation and continue to do the same things? Obviously felt above the rules. My daughter goes there. I visited her just 2 weeks ago and sat in on her music class, taught by the band director....he was interesting...cool guy. I hope the message gets through.

I used to be in the UW band from '94-'98. Yes there was Drinking and "hazing" of the new guys, but nothing really beyond embarassing nick names, and dirty haikus and limericks. I do not have any info on what happened beyond the fact that "something" happened on the roadtrip out to Michigan that caused the administration to crack down on Mike Lecrone.

Personally I think the changing standards of what is acceptable behavior have caught up with some of the band "traditions".

geez, even as far back as 1971, I recall a band trip that was cut short when a number of folks missed bed check - our director rounded up the missing members, rousted the rest of us from our beds, loaded the bus and we headed for home 2 days early.

Our band director would have been out drinking with the missing members.:rofl::rofl:

yeah, except this was high school, and other than a few seniors, nobody was of legal drinking age... SD was 18 at the time
