I'd like to add an aftermarket cruise control to my Firebird. This car has Computerized Combustion Control. I have found several aftermarket cruise control kits. Some depend on the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and others provide a magnetic speed sensor, for additional cost. If it makes any difference, I have the N/A 4.9L Pontiac V8.

I'm wondering if any of you might be able to help me out. I've done a cursory internet search, and didn't come up with a VSS for it.

Thanks

I put an add on cruise control on my '72 Chevy pickup. At first I used the magnetic speed sensor, but it did not hold speed as well as I wanted it to.

I connected the speed sensor wire to the tach line coming out of the distributor and it worked fine, holding speed very well.

I did add an HEI distributor out a '85 or earlier pickup to the '72, eliminating the points and condenser distributor.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks Zeldman,

That helps a lot. I My TA already has HEI, and I'm planning to eventually replace the carb with EFI.
