Think before you jerk?

Ever drive through South Dakota? Not much going on in the esat part of the state except jerking.

Jerking off while driving takes skill and talent. Much more than texting and driving.

I'm not talking from Experience here. :nono:

Skill and talent are different things though often paired together. Skill requires hard work to gain proficiency. Talent is also known as Beginners luck. Which would apply in this case depends on how much of the jerking and driving is done.

What exactly did they mean to discourage? Abrupt acceleration?

Jerking the steering wheel in slippery conditions, I suppose to prevent spins.

Every driver should take spin training.

As an aside, I wish I could adjust my brake bias. I had to do a maximum braking stop on a wet road this morning. I had to mash my brake pedal to the point where the ABS was cycling the rear brakes just to get full effectiveness from the fronts.

I would say this was a case where an ABS stop would have been shorter than non ABS. Properly biased brakes would have resulted in an even shorter stop. But I was able to stop in time.

I think that's what they are getting at, but yes. Everyone should have practice spinning and recovering on a wet surface. Saved my ass just last week - I slammed into several inches of standing water on the freeway going at freeway speed (It was early morning in the dark and I never saw it.) I started to drift sideways, and recovered with no issues. There were a couple of spun out cars on the shoulder past the low spot.

Truck? What I've read is rear brakes on pickups/SUVs are sized to reasonably stop a fully loaded vehicle. When light, these vehicles are going to have too much rear brake, and ABS is a big improvement for such vehicles.

Yes, and good point.

EVOC in the academy was a blast. Got to drive the skid car (spider car) and drive on the skid pad (a Teflon coated surface drenched in water). Much fun. Learned a lot.
