Add me to this camp, we were even told in school that if we ended up changing tires on a 121 bird that they would be retreads.

When I flew for a regional in the early 2000's they were using retreads...

Yep, retreads on airliners are standard, been doing it for years and years.

Yup. I was a heavy aircraft mechanic from 1997 to 2007. Been a flight engineer since then. I see a lot more retreads than new tires. I've never seen a tire come apart from normal wear and tear.
