The Last Flying Tiger has Flown West.

That's sad, but time doesn't stop marching. It's amazing that so many of them survived and so many of us could meet them.

Those men were in my Pantheon of Childhood Heroes. After reading God is my Co-Pilot when I was in fifth grade, I drew crude silhouettes of P-40s spitting .50 caliber slugs for weeks afterwards.

A great chapter in American military history has closed. RIP to Major Sherman and all of the Flying Tigers.

Same for me in my childhood - the Flying Tigers were heroes! Sometimes I wonder how smart I might be now if I hadn't sniffed all that Tester's model cement while building dozens of plastic WWII aircraft models as a kid.
