I have been trying for around 4 months or so now to get a checkout in the club Archer. This is attempt #8 this afternoon... Blue skies, no winds, a/c out of maintenance, no TFRs, flight instructor's schedule matches mine perfectly... Nothing can go wrong now! Right? Wrong...
RWY 17/35 CLSD. 28 OCT 17:00 2013 UNTIL 29 OCT 17:00

Hell, I had the whole weekend to myself - figured I'd cram in some extra sessions with the CFI. KTOA was fog city all weekend :(

You could always ask tower if you can take off from the taxiway....

Yeah, but given the relevant times, it may be getting dark. I'd be a bit hesitant about landing on a taxiway at night. They are much less obvious from the air than runway lighting.

Taxiway is half lit and closed about 1500ft down. No ATC on field but still... not doing that.

Alright... attempt #9 tonight... runway open, all looks good, CFI cancels. This will never end.

Coming from someone who is getting ready for their checkride I hope #10 works out for you! And, having lived in the Columbia/Lexington/Irmo area for a number of years, I'm jealous that you get to fly over the Lake Murray area. It has to be quite a sight...

Personally I actually prefer flying in the Pittsburgh area. Lots of really cool grass strips and the hills and mountains offer something refreshing. Head anywhere East of Columbia and it's monotonous farmlands. Lake Murray is a nice sight but it gets old. I just miss living on Murray when I'm up here in Pittsburgh! Probably won't be doing much more flying back in SC at all now.
Oh and best of luck on your checkride!
PS where in Irmo did you live? That's my neck of the woods right there!

Dang, we didn't hit any grass strips on that flight. :(

Is there some reason that perhaps the club does not you in the Archer?

No, if they really didn't want me to fly a plane they would let me know. For instance, I can't fly the Arrow because I simply don't have enough total time. Reasons for former canceling have been things such as weather, aircraft MX, preflights that found unairworthy items, instructor cancellations, the list goes on. Most have been out of anyone's control.

Sounds a lot like my training so far. The summer in SC was brutal for a student pilot. I had more hours canceled than completed. I'm in Mt Pleasant, grew up in Aiken. The marsh and creeks are hard to beat for flying over down here.
