I did my first oil change today since buying my 182 in July. It also was in bad need of a new air filter which also got changed. It went pretty well but, man, those old Cessna's have a lot of screws in the cowling. My wife helped since she learning to fly in the 182, I thought it would be good for her to see whats inside the cowling. It took 3 hours.

I got home to take a shower & found a stainless steel flat head screw in my pocket. Damned. I though I'd checked every screw on the cowling for tightness before we buttoned her up.

Yup, it will bug me until I find the spot.

It's a law of aviation biology. The cowling screws multiply when they are allowed to get close together. In that circumstance there's always at least one more than you removed - had you taken longer than 3 hours (such as leave the cowling off overnight) it would be waaay worse. Happens to all of us...

It's the screw that your wife replaced and said nothing.
