that old plane smell

I don't believe my 182 smells that bad, but you unavoidably get an oil and fuel smell when you preflight it. When I come home after flying for an hour or so my girlfriends claims I "smell like plane".

I'll try the wash the carpets thing. Can you just throw them into your at home washing machine?
 
Every time I crack the door on my archer and that smell hits me in the face, my brain says "it's time to go flying"!
 
Whatever you do don't try one of those little tree air fresheners. I just found serious damage in my car from one of them contacting hard plastic trim. It was there for about 1-1/2 weeks, then I saw it.... don't know how long it took to happen but it was quick.
The very thin top layer has blistered up maybe 3mm or so

Yep, same thing happened to me. I attached one of those to the fastener which holds the access panel behind the baggage area to the rear bulkhead/hat rack. I'll touch it up one of these days.
