Marcus Smart, OK State BB player shoved the 42 year old Jeff Orr, ATC at Waco Texas after he called Marcus a "piece of crap". Reports said he also called Smart a racial slur, although that is denighed.

Jeff Orr is considered a "Super Fan" at Texas Tech? Many players around the Big 12 know this "super fan" for his foul mouth and obscene gestures towards opposing players.

Orr gave up his season tickets when asked to do so. Maybe he should also give up his government job.

When I saw it, my immediate reaction was "I wonder if the guy made a racial slur?". Marcus wasn't even close to the guy but immediately jumped up and went after him.

I can't imagine anything but a bigoted mouth instigating that.

The level of hate and unsportsmanlike conduct is getting out of hand. Its a sporting event. Let the kids play ball, and applaud when your team does something good. Yelling at the opposing team is classless. Refs, maybe. ;)

It is not tolerated here. I can guarantee you any behavior like Orr displayed and you will be escorted out.... By the fans, or the cops!

I'm certainly no Marcus Smart fan, but that guy in the stands is an ass and shouldn't be allowed back in. This is a college game, not NBA.

Not only a "Super Fan," but "Fan Extraordinaire!" Loved by his team, coach, and fans. :rolleyes2:

Texas Tech Basketball Fan Extraordinaire
In a display of true spirit, one Red Raider fan stands out among the rest.

"This is my hobby. I don’t hunt, fish, golf or any other normal guy activities. I just sort of follow the team around.”

It’s a hobby the basketball team and coaches appreciate.

“Jeff is unbelievable,” said Head Coach Pat Knight. “He means a lot to us and we try to take care of him. He’s always there for us, win or lose. It’s great to know that when we arrive at an away game, he’ll be there to meet us. We can always count on Jeff.”

... and the TT fan comments:

what a great tribute to a Red Raider who puts into action the words, “bear our banners far and wide”. congratulations to Jeff and Becky for this well deserved recognition!! Wreck ‘em!

Great article and video on Jeff.
I have known him and his ‘craziness’ since the Southwest Conference days. I met him at a game way back when and have considered him a friend ever since. Jeff is the blueprint for what a Rabid Red Raider can strive to be… I can only strive… Jeff is there!

Way to go Jeff and Becky! You guys have set the bar pretty high, but that’s what being a Raider is all about.

I love this guy!

Wow! A fully devoted follower of Texas Tech Basketball! Thanks Jeff for your support of the team, home or away

And, apparently, from what's now being reported, Jeff Orr (the fan) has a history of misbehavior though I'm confident that the jury is still out on whether that's a true assessment or is just being blow out of proportion by the media because of this occurrence.

There's video roaming around the web showing his antics in previous games though and it's less than flattering however.

Being passionate about your team is one thing. Being an idiot is another.

One more reason why I'm not a sports fan...I like the fans even less than I like the players, teams, and owners.

This guys is acting like a typical Little League mom! :nono:
I am always amazed at how badly "fans" behave at games from t-ball to the pros. I guess I have never been a passionate enough fan to call the opposing team or their fans bad names, or curse at officials.
The guy was certainly out of line and apologized, apparently it wasn't racial, which wouldn't have made sense anyway, since most of the players in college basketball are African-American. :wink2:

I was always taught no matter what anyone said, unless it's legitimate threat of life or bodily harm that was never justification to retaliate with physicality.

I don't care what the fan said. Not that I'm condoning whatever was said, but just because someone said something to make little Johnny feel bad, doesn't give anyone the right to push, shove, punch etc...

The fan should be disallowed from any more college games, and Smart should be suspended until post season play.

Wonder if Jeff learned a thing or two from Pat's father, Bobby? :rolleyes2:

Their fan base is full of people just like him. Sometime in the mid 90s something seemed to turn, and they got very, very nasty. They went from throwing tortillas at football games (weird, harmless) to throwing batteries, food and beverages, **** bombs, etc. at visiting fans/teams/bands. One year after they upset my Aggies, they rushed the field, tore down the goalposts, and then proceeded to "stick" them into the A&M visitors trying to exit the stands! They routinely vandalize other campuses during road trips. I just don't get it.

It is no surprise to me that trash like Orr are celebrated by that school. They do absolutely nothing to promote good behavior and sportsmanship.

God forbid Smart plays in the pit against the Lobos some day. You think "You Piece Of Crap!" is going to be the worst thing he hears?

Actually, he probably won't hear anything but ringing in his ears:

Of course he denies saying a racial slur. Audio recordings also back up that claim. Many have accused Orr of making a racial statement but so far there is zero evidence of it. Don't let facts get in the way of a good outrage.

Audio from the incident doesn't reveal any evidence of a racial comment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5tqqJ_h7ak&fea ture=youtu.be

Please show one shred of evidence to backup any of the crap you have spouted other than TTU fans throwing tortillas(awesome tradition BTW). Of course it's par for the course for an Aggie to blow things out or proportion with no evidence.

Let's revisit that goal post incident. Keep in mind McKinney was swinging his binoculars like a sling.

http://lubbockonline.com/local-news...-2001-tech-am-fan-fiasco-some-sad-see-rivalry
Mike McKinney, the father of an A&M football player and Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s chief of staff at the time, was punched in the face. While at first believed to be a Tech fan, it turned out to be another A&M fan.
But before video proved it wasn’t a Tech fan, McKinney blasted Tech, calling the act “absolute foolishness,” according to previous newspaper accounts.
McKinney, who recently stepped down from his position as the Texas A&M System’s chancellor, couldn’t be reached for comment this week.

Reading comprehension not your thing yet huh? Read what I said, not what your mind wants to think I said. :mad2:

BTW, you have no idea what Orr said during the course of the game. Do you really think that is the only time Orr insulted the opposing team? :nono:

Must be a TT fan extraordinaire yourself?

Texas Tech has some of the worst fans / idiots in all of college sports. Period. This is another proves it. The way you come out swinging without knowing or reading all the facts is another pretty clear example of what hot heads TT fans are.

When is it ever acceptable behavior at TT to call an opposing member of another school a "piece of crap"? Takes a real man to call a player that when he knows he cant do anything about it.

Funny, I was raised that if someone said that to me they would be missing teeth in about 2 Nano seconds. :D

As a diehard OSU fan and former season ticket holder for 10 plus years until moving it really breaks our hearts to be the center of attn in college basketball for something like this. Marcus Smart has been a model student and athlete until last few weeks. He has persevered through a difficult childhood and has came out on top in many ways.

I never see it ok to do what he did for any reason at all. However when Jeff Orr (dirtbag) chooses to call a young athlete names instead of just helping him up it says a lot about his character and total lack of integrity. As many of us have experienced, the controllers we deal with on regular basis are good people and this douche has just given them the same label as he has Texas Tech fans.

Marcus Smart will rise above this and continue to shine. For those doubters in him you should read abut his life growing up. Its a good read!

Apologies on the 'good outrage' comment. That was more directed at many who have weighed in (not only here) claiming that a racial comment was said and painting all Red Raiders with it. So far, any claims of a racial comment being made are pure speculation and there is absolutely no evidence to back it up.

Here is an interesting read on how the whole "what was said" was spun before any evidence came out.
http://deadspin.com/go-back-to-africa-twitter-rumor-becomes-marcus-smart-1519336610

What I think is also being missed on this is that Smart and other have claimed Orr is a racist and used racial language. Without any evidence, is that not slander?

This is what I don't get! Why would a "fan" berate the opposing team? Without the competition there is no game! We should (and Nebraska fans do) cheer when the opposing team takes the field, and we give them a standing ovation when ever they leave the field at Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, NE.

Are we old fashioned? I guess. Depends on your definition of what college athletics is suppose to be. It should be about education, sportsmanship, and character building of our young people. These are 18-23 year old students, please don't forget.

This is an embarrassment for the Big 12.

Sportsmanship just like common sense is endangered! Where is the harm by catching a kid and telling him good hustle. Whatever slurs aside you can see the ladies around Jeff Orr clapping close to his face in a taunting fashion. I might expect this from college kids but grown adults?

This is definitely a sad situation any way you look at it!

College fans ain't got nuthin on middle/high school parents.

That's about what I would expect for a Tech fan. I say that based on two games at Tech and several at home as an Aggie.

I think that's how women's basketball still works...

I used to take my daughters to college women's games. At one of them, about 3-4 students (female) were wearing very proper gowns and long white gloves. They had signs that said thing like "I beg your pardon, but I disagree with that call!", "Please miss!", and such. It was refreshing.

This Aggie agrees as well.

I'm not surprised a Tech fan is jumping to defend his school, but if you want to get a broader opinion just ask the fans of the Big 12 North (+ Oklahoma) schools that don't have a long history/rivalry/hatred/whatever with Tech what they think of their fans, and you'll get the same sentiment without fail. I live around and work with fans from KSU/KU/OU/OSU/Nebraska/etc. and everyone reports how lousy the experience is in Lubbock for opposing fans. It isn't just internet banter that people repeat, it is what they actually experience.

Being rude and obnoxious is not a requirement to support your team, and not something you should take pride in and defend.

I am a proud Texas Tech alum, but I have never understood these super fans (of any team). I do believe your generalization of Tech fans is pretty off. I think its pretty fair to say that a lot schools/teams have some extreme/super fans. I do agree with you that name calling is never acceptable. There are other ways to support your team.

Then we can agree to agree. TT is an exceptional school with exceptional history and traditions. I know not all TT fans are like Orr, or the other responders here. They simply don't get it. My son in law is a TT grad. He is embarrassed by this and most of the fan reports coming out of TT. A change in culture needs to be made. For the coaches to support the moron Orr is disgusting.

Please, clean up your school, and the fans. If that means firing the AD and coaches then do it! Winning is NOT everything. Character building, sportsmanship, and civility is.

These are STUDENTS!

Well, that's using the term quite loosely! :)

We need to draw the line somewhere. ;)

They are certainly not fans at TT who call opposion players disgusting names.

Funny how people can get all worked up and " offended" about calling people names in public, but look the other way at a sporting event? Where happened to civility in this country?
