IMG_4895.JPG some serious range fires near Amarillo, Dumas, etc last couple of days; hundreds of thousands acres, 35 mi long fire lines, 4? 6? dead, some while trying to save their livestock, one from smoke inhalation walking on a road.
A weak cold front sent the smoke south to us, hundreds of miles away, lowering vis from 50mi to 3mi: (untouched iphone pic) That is normally clear blue sky.
Any pilots here from that way?

Yup. Doing an instrument drop in with my student to KSJT and the sky was clear but the FU metar code was all over the place. Visibility was no joke a problem. Down to 3 or less miles at times. It was pretty wide spread (ABI, MAF and point north of course) . The front line was right between sjt and us down here so it was rain and low clouds on our side including san antonio area (our destination) and that weird mars like sky to the north of the line. Weird day for sure.
